Our visit to Knowsley Safari Park

We had a fantastic time on our visit to Knowsley Safari Park! We enjoyed driving around the park on the coach while we had a closer look at some of the wild animals such as lions, rhinos and antelope. We also had a lot of fun as we watched the sea lions show. If you have not been to visit with your family maybe this is something you could look into over the Summer holidays.

Enjoy looking through our photographs!

Jasper’s Beanstalk

We have been reading Jasper’s Beanstalk by Mick Inkpen and today we had the chance to plant our own beans. When we had finished we watered the beans and then placed them outside to make sure there was enough sunlight to help them to grow. We will keep a close eye on them each day to see how tall they grow – we better watch out for giants!

Our visit to ASDA

The children thoroughly enjoyed our visit to ASDA. While we were there we were looking out for examples of Fair Trade food items and as you can see below Hareem is holding some Fair Trade hot chocolate – can you see the Fair Trade logo at the bottom of the jar? We also bought some beans and bread as we will be making beans on toast towards the end of the week.

Writing Week

The children have worked very hard this week to mark make and create their own piece of work that has now been added to our special ‘Writing Week’ book. This morning the children enjoyed sharing their work with parents and were rewarded a special writing medal. Our book is in our reading box in the classroom, why not have another look at all the children’s hard work.

Well done everybody!

Dunham Massey

We really enjoyed out trip to Dunham Massey! Nursey and reception children travelled by coach and had a walk in the most beautiful park. It was very cold so we wrapped up warm and made sure we wore our wellies!

We would like to take this opportunity to once again thank all the extra staff members and parent that came along. You were all a great help and we very much appreciated your support. Thank you from us all!

Christmas time

We were very busy over the Christmas period – have a look to see what we got up to…

We were all involved with the Christmas Nativity performance giving us the chance to dress up in lovely costumes. Then we has our Christmas party involving lots of dancing, party games and delicious party food. We had lots of fun! Thank you to parents once again for your very kind contributions to our Christmas feast! We also had fun dressing ourselves up with funny Christmas themed props – these photos were taken to add to the Calendars that were made during the final week of term. We laughed so much!

Our visit from Book Start

Our parents and children thoroughly enjoyed our Book Start visit! We listened to a lovely story and sang some familiar nursery rhymes before engaging in some creative activities. Our photographs show some examples of the fantastic boats and gingerbread men that were made during the session. The children were then lucky enough to take a special gift pack home containing the book that had been shared earlier in the morning.

The children absolutely love listening to stories during the nursery day, please also set aside time at home to share stories with your child. We continue to promote the importance of reading in the early years and of course across all year groups at Crowcroft Park. This half term small groups of parents have been invited to join us for our story sessions in the Library. If you have not yet received an invitation you certainly will during the coming weeks so do not worry!

Making play dough

The nursery children are taking turns to help make play dough at the start of each week. They have really enjoyed this experience so far and have been so very helpful. This is a very popular learning area in the classroom – as I am sure you have already noticed! If you have not had a turn yet it could be your turn next time so come and ask us about it. Thank you to Shakai, Anaiba, Saleeha and Hassan for your help this week – keep up the good work everybody!

Why not have a go at making play dough at home? The recipe is very simple:

400g of plain flour

200g of salt

4 tablespoons of vegetable oil

4 teaspoons of cream of tartar

600ml of boiled water

Combine the ingredients together in a mixing bowl, adding small amounts of water until it feels just right!

Bread Making

We have been reading the story of the Little Red Hen this week. She worked so hard to bake the bread even when her friends would not help her! Today the children worked with Miss Qayum to bake bread rolls. They had such an enjoyable time and all helped to prepare the dough before moulding it into bread rolls. The next day the children chose their own topping and enjoyed tasting the bread.
