Welcome To Our Class Blog

Dunham Massey

We really enjoyed out trip to Dunham Massey! Nursey and reception children travelled by coach and had a walk in the most beautiful park. It was very cold so we wrapped up warm and made sure we wore our wellies!

We would like to take this opportunity to once again thank all the extra staff members and parent that came along. You were all a great help and we very much appreciated your support. Thank you from us all!

Christmas time

We were very busy over the Christmas period – have a look to see what we got up to…

We were all involved with the Christmas Nativity performance giving us the chance to dress up in lovely costumes. Then we has our Christmas party involving lots of dancing, party games and delicious party food. We had lots of fun! Thank you to parents once again for your very kind contributions to our Christmas feast! We also had fun dressing ourselves up with funny Christmas themed props – these photos were taken to add to the Calendars that were made during the final week of term. We laughed so much!

Our visit from Book Start

Our parents and children thoroughly enjoyed our Book Start visit! We listened to a lovely story and sang some familiar nursery rhymes before engaging in some creative activities. Our photographs show some examples of the fantastic boats and gingerbread men that were made during the session. The children were then lucky enough to take a special gift pack home containing the book that had been shared earlier in the morning.

The children absolutely love listening to stories during the nursery day, please also set aside time at home to share stories with your child. We continue to promote the importance of reading in the early years and of course across all year groups at Crowcroft Park. This half term small groups of parents have been invited to join us for our story sessions in the Library. If you have not yet received an invitation you certainly will during the coming weeks so do not worry!

Making play dough

The nursery children are taking turns to help make play dough at the start of each week. They have really enjoyed this experience so far and have been so very helpful. This is a very popular learning area in the classroom – as I am sure you have already noticed! If you have not had a turn yet it could be your turn next time so come and ask us about it. Thank you to Shakai, Anaiba, Saleeha and Hassan for your help this week – keep up the good work everybody!

Why not have a go at making play dough at home? The recipe is very simple:

400g of plain flour

200g of salt

4 tablespoons of vegetable oil

4 teaspoons of cream of tartar

600ml of boiled water

Combine the ingredients together in a mixing bowl, adding small amounts of water until it feels just right!

Bread Making

We have been reading the story of the Little Red Hen this week. She worked so hard to bake the bread even when her friends would not help her! Today the children worked with Miss Qayum to bake bread rolls. They had such an enjoyable time and all helped to prepare the dough before moulding it into bread rolls. The next day the children chose their own topping and enjoyed tasting the bread.

The Copper Mile!

We would like to thank everyone for their contributions as we have raised money for UNICEF throughout the week. The children worked together to form our copper mile which measured 14.86 meters. We managed to raise £32.63 which was then added to amounts collected throughout the school. As a whole school we managed to raise almost £500 for UNICEF!

Here are some photographs that were taken as the children formed the Copper Mile. Thank you children for all your hard work today!

The arrival of the mystery egg…

This is what was found in the dining hall on Monday morning. By Tuesday the egg had started to crack… By Wednesday the egg had cracked even more… By Thursday The egg had hatched! But what was inside the egg? Where has it disappeared to? Nobody knows…

This week we have spent a lot of time writing letters to the mystery creature.

Our Spring Walk

We had a lovely time on our Spring walk! The children had a tick list that had pictures of natural objects (e.g. leaves and flowers) and creatures (e.g. worms and spiders). Children and parents worked so well together to look for signs of Spring and talk about their findings.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank parents once again for their support on this outing. The children and staff had a lovely morning out that was full of fantastic learning opportunities for all. Your support was very much appreciated!

British Science Week

It is British Science Week and we have had a fantastic time!

Our outdoor investigation

We have been exploring the outdoor area and talking about the things that we have found and collected together. We found some mini beasts and some other interesting natural objects.

Our Oobleck Investigation

We made and explored Oobleck slime! We mixed cornflour and water together to see what would happen. Talk to your child about it and ask them to tell you what happened next…

Melting paint ice lollies

We made paint ice lollies that we used to make marks in the creative area. The table was very wet and messy when the ice lollies had melted!

How can we make the boats move faster?

The boats were floating in the water and we began to think about different ways to make the boat sail faster. The wind helped the boats to move along, then we blew the boats away using straws. Its a race! 1,2,3 GO!!!
