SCIENCE INVESTIGATION WEEK 2018

During our investigation event, parents joined us to take part in exciting experiments linked to our science topics. It was fabulous to have so many parents in school supporting their children.

Airport Poems

IMG_7801

You may have seen pictures of our recent trip to the airport on the school’s main website…

If not – have a look now!

When we returned, the children were so inspired by their experience they decided to write some poems about the airport!

We then scanned the poems and e-mailed them to the visitor’s centre.

We received a very exciting reply: they are so impressed with the children’s work they have decided to put some of the poems on their Facebook page!

The nine poems I have posted here are the ones that were selected to appear on Manchester Airport’s Facebook page.

When the poems have been posted, I will share a link to the page on our blog.

For now though, have a look at the amazing writing the children have produced, and as always – PLEASE LEAVE A COMMENT!

Blogging Club

Welcome to the new home for the Writing Heroes group!

This group of boys from Y1 and Y2, together with their writing mentors from Y5 and Y6, have been doing creative writing projects together for quite some time now. They have decided together that they would like the group to focus on blogging, so you can expect to see lots of work posted here in the coming weeks and months.

To begin with, here is some of the writing they have produced in response to the truly shocking event that occurred at our school a few weeks ago, when a spaceship landed in our garden!

PLEASE LEAVE COMMENTS below the work. All the boys are really keen to get your feedback. As always, please make your comments polite and constructive.

Click on the links below to see the children’s work.

Thank you!

Paper Aeroplanes!

This week in maths we have been learning about angles, rotation, position and direction.

Our challenge was to design and make paper aeroplanes, labelling the angles as we did so.

Then we had to work in pairs, giving each other instructions to make sure we threw the aeroplanes in right direction.

Finally we had a competition to see who could throw their aeroplane the furthest.

Saif set the record at an enormous 12 metres!

Music Workshop!

Year three have been lucky enough to have a visit from some amazing musicians!

They came from the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM) to do a workshop with us.

There was a pianist, a clarinettist and a singer.

We really enjoyed listening, asking and answering questions, and joining in with the songs and games.

After the workshop, we asked the musicians a lot of questions. We were amazed at how much practising they do every day!

I think some of the children have been inspired to become musicians themselves!

Weeding and re-potting in the school garden!

We have been learning about plants in year three. This week we focussed on the roots!

We learned that one of the functions of the roots is to anchor the plant in the soil.

This means it keeps the plant still… like an anchor!

We tried to pull out some of the weeds and we could feel how strongly the roots were holding the plants in the soil.

We also helped the peace lily to keep growing by re-potting in into a bigger pot.

First we had to gently tease out the roots because they had become tightly tangled up.

Then we put some bits of broken pot in the bigger pot so the water could drain out.

Finally we put in some compost and the plant, then some more compost on top.

Now the peace lily’s happy and so are we!
