Religious Education

The right of parents to withdraw their children from Religious Education (RE) lessons is set out in section 71(1) of the School Standards and Framework Act 1998. A parent can request that their child be wholly or partly excused from receiving RE, which is provided in accordance with the school’s basic curriculum.
Please note that the rules for withdrawing children from RE lessons do not apply to other subjects that may discuss religion. Therefore, children cannot be withdrawn from any National Curriculum subject that includes a study of religion.
If you would like to discuss the possibility of withdrawing your child from RE lessons, please contact Mrs. Francis or speak with a member of staff at the school office.
